Introduction

Our team was approached by the main contractor to carry out the supply and installation of Metsec High Bay walls. These walls were required to create new retail unit division walls within a shopping centre located near Glasgow. In addition to the structural installation, the walls needed to be finished with a complete Ames tape finish, ensuring both fire performance and aesthetic standards were met. This project represented a critical part of the overall retail development, aimed at subdividing large retail spaces for new tenants.

Challenges Faced

The complexity of the project introduced a series of challenges. One of the most notable was the significant height of the walls, which required precise engineering and detailed planning to ensure structural stability. The head and abutment detailing needed careful attention to ensure a seamless connection with the existing structure. Additionally, the logistics of loading materials, especially to the upper floors, presented another challenge. Accessing these areas within a busy shopping centre environment required coordination to avoid disruption to other ongoing activities. Finally, we had to adhere strictly to the retail client’s schedule, which often demanded flexibility and efficient time management to avoid interfering with the centre’s daily operations and leasing timelines.

Scope of Work

  1. Structural Framing Systems (SFS)
Our team was responsible for supplying and installing approximately 3,000 square metres of SFS High Bay Walls. These walls were constructed with fire performance in mind, meeting all necessary fire protection standards to ensure the safety of the occupants and the building. A large portion of the walls also included security mesh within the wall buildup to enhance the security of the retail units. Once installed, the walls were finished with a complete Ames tape finish, providing a smooth and professional appearance ready for final decoration.

Outcome

What initially began as a project focused on creating a unit and access corridors for a single client has since grown. The successful completion of the initial phase has led to the ongoing expansion of the package, as more floor spaces are leased within the shopping centre. The flexibility and quality of our work have enabled us to meet the needs of the client as their requirements evolve, ensuring that the project continues to grow in scope and value.
