Introduction: We were approached by the client’s engineers to prepare a design for the internal sub-division walls and internal perimeter wall linings, which would go on to create a large sub-divided storage facility for their distilled products. We appointed Metsec to carry out the design of the SFS sub-division walls and British Gypsum for the Shaftwall perimeter wall linings and their ‘umbrella’ purlin encasement works.
Challenges Faced: The complexity of the project was evident given the height of the walls being around 11m high and give the fire performance, detailing was critical particularly where meeting the existing structure.
Scope of Work:
- Structural Framing Systems (SFS):
- We supplied and installed 5no sub-division walls giving a total of circa 1,500m2 of SFS High Bay Walls, these were then finished with an ames taped finish. These walls also were fitted with a 2hr rated ‘umbrella’ purlin 3.5m wide encasement at the heads of the sub-division walls.
- Shaftwall Wall Linings:
- We supplied and installed to the perimeter of the building circa 1,000m2 of British Gyspum Shaftwall wall lining system, spanning upto a height of around 11m split over two individual frame build ups, this again was finished with an ames taped finish and fire batt head infill detail where we met the existing roof structure.
Outcome: The initial order was for the one larger unit creating 5no storage units, however given our team’s onsite performance we were successful in extending these works into another smaller unit that created 2no storage units.
Conclusion: Continuing Veitchi’s success in carrying out this type of sophisticated works, we continue to be at the forefront in Scotland for providing High Bay Wall & Drywall solutions for these types of warehousing projects.
