THE PROJECT

The project involves the construction of Scottish Seafarms new salmon rearing facility and offices in Barcaldine, Oban.

We successfully negotiated this multi-trade fit-out package on the back of an initial competitive bidding situation. The works mainly comprised installing Metsec Load Bearing Structures to form the offices, Drywall Finishes, Ceilings, Joinery, Folding Screens, Kitchen & Tea-prep Facilities, Glazed Screens, Flooring and Hygienic Wall Cladding works elements.

An initial challenge we identified was due to the heights of the internal spaces it was not going to be viable to sub-divide the area into the required offices without considerable time and resource using traditional metal stud partitions. We came up with a solution to use Metsec’s Load Bearing Steel structures components to create a series of boxes at a more suitable level, allowing us to create the form for the ceilings in joisted ceiling cassettes. This, in turn, benefited follow on trades and was suitable for the services contractor to overlay their cable tray runs etc. The end result sped up the build process considerably and generated savings in the process. The added benefit of Veitchi being able to undertake most of the works directly with their own labour force helped us manage and co-ordinate the works to provide almost seamless delivery.
